If you are still in school or have in fact gone back to school to get a degree, you know that a major portion of the course you take will be writing essays. And for many this is not a huge deal. After all, after you have done a few essays it should not be a problem right? The thing with that line of thinking is that there are those that no matter what, just cannot seem to write in the style that is required by most essays and most professors. That said, whenever a new assignment comes up they immediately dread doing it and will most often put off until the last minute. This, of course, is certainly not what you want to do and it can be completely avoided if you follow some suggestions.
A vital part of learning how to write essays is to understand the importance of structure. Structure helps the reader to understand where your essay is going and what you are trying to tell them. Think of the structure as a framework around which you can build your writing, Firstly, while researching your topic, write down the main points in dot point form, using only a few words - these will form the main structure for your essay. It does not matter much at this stage what order they are in - you can sort that out later. Under each main point, jot down 2 or 3 sub points that go into a bit more detail about that particular aspect of your essay.
If you need to know how to write essays, you are not alone. Essay writing is probably one of the most struggled-with topics in high school, university, and beyond. Lots of people never learn how to write essays, and they miss out on opportunities as a result.
